Nina Jun Artist Statement:

We expect pillows and balloons to be soft and plush and can be pushed down. To stir up these stereotypical and comfortable thoughts that we have towards certain objects and subjects, I make pillows and balloons in ceramic.
Pillows are physically present close to our resting heads. In that pillow, I see a vessel to contain our mind. For this reason, I make miniature stages with ceramic cast toys interacting with the form of pillows.
I see vanity of life in the hard fired ceramic pillows and balloons. Balloons are swollen to contain air. I see this puffiness of a balloon as a manifestation of time elements of life; when the air escapes, the balloon deflates and the life vanishes.
Art is, I believe, mining the hidden gold of our heart.
Some of my ceramic pillows and balloons can hang from the wall, like paintings.
