MIXED MEDIA CONSTRUCTIONS

My mixed media construction sculptures are intended to be visually aggressive. They are a natural outgrowth of my formative years spent in my uncles’ scrap metal yard. Materials used are acquired from society's unused, discarded, obsolete, broken debris implying environmental concern.  All of my artwork is created intuitively with no predetermined form. Assembly is all mechanical fastening, no welding or solder.  After initial aesthetic appeal, most materials are used because of their strength and durability.  Other materials are incorporated because of their evocative potential and/or reference to my personal biography.

Further aesthetic considerations exist in their own realm and are not linear, sequential or even necessarily logical.  For me, the work functions on several levels simultaneously without a single dominant, correct interpretation

The artwork is:

                        A.        My expression of an obsessive need to make these objects.

                        B.        Creative exploration in pursuit of new visual experience.

                        C.        The result of an on-going search for a less traditional materials palette.

                        D.        Gut-level reactionary response to Minimalism.

                        E.        A physical expression of my connection to the spirit world.

                        F.         Pro environmental; Anti-materialistic

                        G.        A cultural artifact from a parallel universe.

                        H.        Whimsical and serious at the same time.

                        I.          All of these things, and more.

                        J.         None of these things, and less.
